Women’s Health Q & A

What is women’s health?

Women’s health includes all the conditions and problems a woman might experience related to her reproductive organs, sexual health, and female genetics. Dr. Sujansky offers her patients a comprehensive well-woman check-up as one of the services included in the concierge program.

Looking after yourself and preventing illness is the best way to keep fit and healthy, whatever your gender. Dr. Sujansky believes in doing the best for her patients by promoting a healthy lifestyle and supporting you in making changes such as losing weight, eating more healthily, and getting the correct amount and type of exercise.

Each patient is an individual, and there’s no one-size-fits-all solution, so you always receive tailored care and advice from Dr. Sujansky.

What is a well-woman exam?

During a well-woman exam, Dr. Sujansky reviews your health and well-being and carries out a breast and pelvic exam to pick up any problems with your reproductive organs. You also have a Pap smear if you need one, to check for any changes in cervical cells that could indicate the onset of cervical cancer.

At your well-woman exam, you can discuss a range of issues and have various tests to check for early signs of health problems, including:

  • Cancer screening
  • Diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • Bone density
  • Mental health
  • Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)
  • Sexual issues
  • Weight control
  • Problems with periods
  • Menopause
  • Incontinence
  • Relationship problems
  • Effects of aging
  • Emotional difficulties

You can also discuss birth control options with Dr. Sujansky and have any immunization shots you need, such as the flu or HPV (human papillomavirus).

What happens during a well-woman exam?

At your well-woman exam, Dr. Sujansky begins by having a talk with you about how you’re feeling and any problems you’re experiencing. When you’re ready, she will examine you, head-to-toe, as well as carry out the internal exam.

You lie back on an examination table and relax while Dr. Sujansky inserts the speculum, a special instrument that holds the vaginal walls open. This enables her to feel inside your vagina for any anomalies, and take some cells from your cervix for laboratory analysis. Dr. Sujansky also examines your breasts to check for lumps.
